View MoreHow Porcelain Veneers are Made
In the past, porcelain veneers required two visits to the dentist over the course of at least two weeks. Today, Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, or CEREC, allows Dr. Patel to craft custom porcelain dental restorations within a single visit. To begin, he will prepare the tooth by removing a minimal amount of enamel from the front surface in order to accommodate the porcelain veneer. Next, Dr. Patel will take digital impressions of your teeth, which will be transmitted to the CEREC machine. Computer-guided milling tools will create your veneers from porcelain selected to match your natural teeth. Next, the veneers are carefully bonded in place, instantly enhancing the patient’s smile. Depending upon your goals and needs, we can also provide ultra-thin veneers that require no alteration to the tooth.
Benefits of Porcelain Veneers
The unique construction and application of porcelain veneers offer a wealth of benefits. Often called an "instant smile makeover," porcelain veneers can conceal:
- Discoloration
- When stains originate within a tooth (intrinsic staining) and do not respond to teeth whitening, porcelain veneers are an excellent solution.
- Excessive wear
- After years of use, teeth can begin to wear down and look short. Worn teeth will appear healthy, long, and beautiful with porcelain veneers.
- Minor structural damage
- Chipped teeth may not always hurt, or even threaten your dental health, but when they affect the appearance of your smile, porcelain veneers can restore symmetry. Odd spaces: Porcelain veneers can conceal slight gaps and improve the overall appearance of your smile.
Porcelain Veneers Candidates
Determining whether porcelain veneers are the right choice for you depends on a number of factors, including the nature of your dental imperfections and the extent of any structural damage. If unsightly teeth are the effect of tooth decay or other health issues, restorative treatments such as then a dental filling may be necessary to properly treat your smile. Teeth that are significantly damaged often require dental crowns or other restorative dentistry measures to prevent further damage and tooth loss. After a comprehensive examination and consultation, Dr. Patel can help you choose the right course of treatment.
